Formed in 2007, Spred The Dub has been keeping crowds dancing all over South Florida with their own brand of “Good Time Reggae” music – infusing elements of soul, funk and r&b with a foundation of rocksteady, ska and roots reggae to create sonic landscapes and massive drum & bass riddems. They have been hard at work making a name for themselves, playing stages all over the state…from local beach bars to club venues, opening for national touring acts like Dirty Heads, The Green, Passafire, and The Movement, as well as reggae legends like The Skatalites, Eek-A-Mouse, Black Uhuru and Yellowman. Their sound is perfect blend of “new style” and “old school” that is sure to get people in the groove!

Originally starting out as a weekly reggae jam night at a local venue in Palm Beach, the group has slowly but surely become a mainstay in the South Florida reggae scene. In their early years as a 12-piece ensemble featuring multiple percussion players and musicians, their music was based on improvisational jams and instrumental vamps. It was this “dub” sound that became the band’s musical style and eventually lead to the name Spred The Dub.

Over time this massive group of players has evolved into a smaller core unit of members.
Mick Swigert (aka Micky Vintage) has been providing the reverberated vocals and rhythmic skank that have characterized STD’s sound since the earliest days of the group. Kevin “KJo” Johnson (bass/vocals) and Michael McDermott (drums) are the rhythm section responsible for building the thundering riddems and funky grooves that serve as the rock solid foundation of the group’s songs, and the addition of Sam Szpendyk (trombone/vocals) and Eric Cohen-Greenberg (keyboards), has brought a new dimension to the sound. Hunter Hutchings (lead guitar) brings his tasteful solos and dub effects to the group. Together these players gel into one of the freshest sounds in South Florida reggae. Their set list includes a host of well-crafted original songs which range from upbeat rocksteady rhythms to thick, soul-moving roots jams. These songs coupled with their unique renditions of modern classics and rejuvenated reggae standards, help to create the “Good Time Reggae” vibes.

With several major projects in the works, the future for Spred The Dub looks very bright. Their weekly shows on Monday nights have turned Clematis St. into a hotspot for reggae music in West Palm Beach and their live show schedule has them bouncing all over the tri-county area with scattered excursions to Northern FL and the Gulf Coast. 4/20 2012 saw the release of their first full length album of original material and they are featured on the “Reggae Wave” compilation CD along with the best reggae bands in South FL, powered by reggae legends “Inner Circle”.

This is the next chapter of Spred the Dub’s legacy, and with the new tunes, dubbed out covers, and hand-picked venues, you are sure to see why there will be plenty more “Good Times” to come.

Laid back, soaked in Florida sunshine and all twisted up in reggae-rock – this is Boca Raton’s own Fireside Prophets. Following the success of their debut EP Resinate, the dynamic three-piece group is back in the studio to prepare a full-length album for release in late 2014. Part chilled-out reggae, part slinky rock and all attitude, this is the next up and coming band to keep your eyes on.

While combining classic elements of reggae with hip hop rhythms and the crunchy attitude of 90s grunge, Fireside Prophets coined their own brand of “Dirty South Swamp Rock.” Ideal for fans of Slightly Stoopid, Authority Zero, The Expendables, Sublime or Rebelution, the group consistently pushes the limits while transporting the listener to the fun-loving, palm tree dotted warm shores of Florida.

Now a mainstay at area clubs and music venues, Fireside Prophets are consistently featured on FAU college radio while garnering airplay on Pandora and Jango. While continuing to ride the wave set off by the release of Resinate in late 2012, their upcoming debut LP sees the band pushing their unique blend of music to new heights as they continue to grow.

“Fireside Prophets craft catchy lyrics, worthy of being sung in the shower, that blend magically with their guitar riffs which rival the expert level on Guitar Hero and a drum beat that stitches everything together. But what’s especially impressive isn’t just their cool vibe and musical skill. It’s also their passion for music – something the industry can’t manufacture,” said Michelle Ferrand of University Press – FAU.

Fireside Prophets was founded in 2008 at Florida Atlantic University by a trio of like-minded music fanatics; Justin “JD” D’Alfonso (guitar/lead vocals), Oren “OG” Gross (bass/piano/backing vocals) and Travis “T-Shmeet” Schmeider (drums/backing vocals). They have also appeared on a pair of BandCamp compilations; CompOWLation: Volume 1 and Homegrown: From The Sunshine State.

Resinate is available now from digital retailers such as iTunes, Amazon and CD Baby, with streaming audio available on the band’s official Facebook, ReverbNation and BandCamp pages. Keep up with all the latest news including tour dates and album updates by following them on Facebook or Twitter and subscribing to their mailing list. Keep your eyes peeled for the Fireside Prophets debut LP later in 2014.
